The Bureau of Local Government Finance enlisted the help of The Conflict Resolution Group Foundation, Inc. to conduct a Values-based Mediation course for their special investigators. Finance can be a very meticulous industry, and as the focal agency and authority in local finance, issues, conflicts and complaints are expected. It is important for the Bureau’s employees to be equipped with the necessary mindset and tools to address issues brought to their attention in a collaborative manner.
The first day of training was really focused on laying down the foundation for mediation which was understanding the importance of one’s values. As the days progressed, the participants were given more learning exercises to really help them apply what they have learned and to imbibe in them the importance of these lessons. A workshop was held to allow the BLGF employees to participate in the enhancement of their grievance procedures at the Bureau. The rich discussion paved the way to a model of grievance machinery that they deemed suitable for their organization.
Despite the Christmas rush and the long hours of training, the participants were appreciative and grateful for this experience. “I’m very happy that this approach was different from the trainings we’ve had before. I’m grateful that this training was given to us.”
