More than two dozen fellows undergoing certification as Mediators under the Project Dalubhasa Program of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) completed their accreditation program this April 2019. With Competence as one of the agency’s principal values, the Project Dalubhasa was launched last year with a vision of producing in-house specialists in key areas of Trade and Investment, Consumer Protection and MSME through intensive and up-to-date training programs. Learners are exposed to technical skills as well as leadership and critical thinking skills that will enhance their ability to adapt to the changing environment.
Joining the DTI’s mediation team in class are a majority number of adjudicators, enforcers and even sales promotion review officers from across the Philippines. One participant shared: “having two hats as an Enforcer and a Mediator at the same time, I’m a little bit confused and worry that I may not be able to become an effective mediator if I cannot detach from my other designation. It is really challenging.” Confidence was built as learners underwent a rigorous 80-hour program which included a mentoring process that allowed participants to handle real-life complaints filed before the Consumer Welfare Group (CPG).
In June 2018, the DTI reported a 100% mediation settlement rate of complaints filed before their office. “The CoRe Group has always looked at our mediation training as an opportunity to transform mindsets on conflict… that there are positive ways to address conflict,” explains Mia Corpus, Executive Director of The CoRe Group. Modules on the mindset of a mediator become the foundation of the training programs. One participant shared ”The training has changed a lot of my ideas and beliefs in the best possible manner. The training helped me a lot not just for my career but in my personal life as well.”
After this course, participants shall move on to gaining additional expertise in other fields of surveillance, monitoring, enforcement and adjudication.
“Thank you CoRe Group Foundation, Inc. You embody the values of professionalism, respect, mastery of craft, compassion which you espoused so well. I hope my own children will have the opportunity to attend your sessions. I know they will be enriched by the learnings and experience. “ (DTI Project Dalubhasa Learner, 2019)
